Where even do I start? Shortly after the Magic panel at San Diego Comic Con, we got a ton of exciting news. Both explicit and otherwise. I’d like to touch on a few things that have me hyped!
PROJECT BOOSTER FUN
So the way we buy boosters is changing. And the internet hype machine alternately likes to spin this as a desperate cash grab, or the incipient death of Magic. Truth is I couldn’t be more thrilled at the plans for different types of boosters. First thing. The boosters that we’re used to buying will change. They’re getting better! With higher drop rates for foil cards and interesting frame treatments actually in packs!
I also think that the idea of a premium collector booster is very cool. Less cracking packs and just looking at the rare. More cool card treatments, foils, borderless cards like the eternal masters box toppers. It’s all very exciting.
THRONE OF ELDRAINE
I was wrong on this one. I absolutely thought the next set was going to be a Viking world with a Snow theme. And I couldn’t be more happy to be wrong! The idea of a world full of resonant fairytale and high fantasy designs is unbelievably cool to me, and I think many other players as well. Plus the art we’ve seen so far is all really beautiful. Not much else to say until we see cards but here we are.
SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT BRAWL
Maybe? If you like Brawl already, good news! Your format is getting new support and toys. If you’re on the fence, good news! Precon Brawl decks will make it easier to try the format. If you play Commander? Well the unique card designs for the Brawl decks might give you toys to play with. Scratch that. The two we’ve seen so far are going to be Commander all stars. And if you don’t care about any of it? That’s cool too. Brawl looks quite easy to ignore.
And that’s it for me. My lukewarm takes on the recent glut of announcements. As always though, good luck and good skill.
